Data literacy is no longer a specialist skill. It is a key condition for active, critical and informed citizenship.
On 1 July, the AI-DL project, took part in the international meeting “Data literacy in the age of generative AI: a lever for understanding and dialogue between education systems”, organised by France Education International, the project coordinator.
The project contributed to the discussions through the participation of several partners in an international round table, as well as in a dynamic poster session showcasing innovative initiatives in education.
For AI-DL, this was an important opportunity to share our work on how schools and teachers can be supported in a world increasingly shaped by data and generative AI. As data becomes central to learning, decision-making and public debate, educational communities need not only technically tools, but also shared spaces to question, interpret and use data responsibly.
This is precisely where data literacy becomes essential: helping teachers and students understand how data is produced, how it circulates, how it can inform decisions, and also how it can shape representations, inequalities and forms of participation.
Many thanks to France Éducation international and all the partners involved for making this exchange possible. The discussions confirmed the importance of building bridges between research, policy and school practices in order to accompany educational communities in this new data-rich world.
